How do we know God's imputation of righteousness is true?

Answered in 1 source

God's imputation of righteousness comes from an understanding of Christ bearing our sin and gifting us with His righteousness.

The doctrine of imputation is central to understanding how believers can be declared righteous before God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 states, 'For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' This illustrates the great exchange where Christ's righteousness is credited to those He chose. Without recognizing the imputation of Adam's sin to humanity, one cannot grasp the significance of Christ's righteousness being applied to the elect, ensuring that they can stand before God justified.
