How do we know God's judgment was real in the days of the Philistines?

Answered in 1 source

The Philistines experienced plagues and afflictions that led them to recognize the hand of the God of Israel against them.

In 1 Samuel 6, the Philistines were suffering from severe afflictions and plagues after capturing the Ark of the Covenant. They recognized that their suffering was not merely coincidental, but rather the mighty hand of the God of Israel acting against them. The priests acknowledged that it was futile to fight against this God, who had delivered Israel from Egypt, making it clear that God's judgment was both real and significant, as they sought to appease Him through offerings and sought guidance from their priests and diviners.
