How do we know God's love covers a multitude of sins?

Answered in 1 source

God's love, exemplified through Christ's sacrifice, provides the basis for covering our sins, allowing believers to forgive one another freely.

In 1 Peter 4:8, we see the counsel that love covers a multitude of sins. The love of God is not passive; it actively took the form of Christ's sacrifice for our sins. While we are incapable of forgiving without a basis, God's love was demonstrated when He sent Christ to die for our sins, providing a model of forgiveness for how we should treat one another. Believers are encouraged to extend this love to one another, forgiving personal offenses as a reflection of the grace they themselves have received. The notion that love can overlook faults promotes unity and fellowship within the body of Christ.
