How do we know God's love is specific to believers?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible states that Christ loves His own, referring specifically to the elect, and this is affirmed in John 13.

The love of Christ is decisively particular, as evidenced in John 13:1, where it states He loved His own, showing that His love is directed specifically towards the elect. This distinction is essential; if God's love were universal without regard for the elect, it would render the concept of grace meaningless. In contrast, God's love is personal and particular in relation to those whom He has chosen. The assurance for believers lies in the knowledge that His love is unwavering and indestructible, accompanied by His commitment to intercede and care for them throughout their lives.
