How do we know God's mercy is for His people?

Answered in 3 sources

God’s everlasting mercy is assured through His covenant of grace, as affirmed in Zechariah 1:3, where He promises to turn to His people if they turn to Him.

The promise of God's mercy for His people is a central theme throughout scripture. In Zechariah 1:3, we see God inviting His people to return to Him, assuring them that if they do, He will show them mercy. This is not a mere invitation but a demonstration of God's covenant faithfulness. His mercy is continuous and is illustrated by His constant reminders not to forsake Him, despite their past rebellions. In essence, God’s mercy is foundational to understanding His relationship with His elect; He remembers His covenant and shows compassion, reflecting the grace extended to them in Christ. Furthermore, the assurance of this mercy propels believers to seek Him in repentance, encouraging a relationship rooted in love and fidelity.
