How do we know God's mercy is for us?

Answered in 7 sources

God’s mercy is assured for those who recognize their sin and plead for His grace, as He promises to have mercy on those who bemoan themselves.

The assurance of God's mercy is intricately connected to our acknowledgment of our sinfulness and our cry for help. In Jeremiah 31:20, God declares, 'I will surely have mercy upon him,' emphasizing that His mercy is certain for those who recognize their plight as Ephraim did. This means that mercy isn't based on our merits or efforts but is a divine gift guaranteed by God’s promise. Additionally, Scripture teaches that all who genuinely seek the Lord with a contrite heart will find favor in His eyes because His mercy is rooted in His everlasting covenant of grace. This is beautifully reflected in the sure mercies of David, where despite our failings, God's goodness endures.
