How do we know God's mercy is greater than His wrath?

Answered in 3 sources

God's mercy is clearly demonstrated throughout Scripture, as seen in His actions before administering wrath (Genesis 3:21, Malachi 3:1).

The record of God's dealings with humanity reveals a consistent pattern where His mercy precedes His wrath. In Genesis 3:21, after Adam and Eve's sin, God clothed them with tunics of skin, signifying His mercy over immediate destruction. Similarly, in Malachi 3:1, God sends a messenger to prepare the way, showing His inclination to extend grace before judgment. These examples illustrate that God's primary desire is reconciliation and mercy, allowing time for repentance rather than instantly executing wrath. His mercy ultimately provided a way of salvation through Jesus Christ, affirmatively overcoming sin and judgment.
