How do we know God's purpose in allowing pain?

Answered in 1 source

God allows pain to teach us obedience, discipline us, and prepare us to comfort others in their suffering (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

God's purpose in allowing pain can be multifaceted. First, pain often serves as a form of discipline meant to draw us closer to God and teach us to rely on His strength. For instance, David states in Psalm 119:71 that his affliction led him to learn God's statutes. Additionally, suffering equips us to comfort others in their tribulations, as expressed in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, where Paul outlines how the comfort we receive from God enables us to provide comfort to those who are hurting. Ultimately, pain can lead us to a deeper understanding of God's grace, revealing our reliance on Him and our true status as pilgrims awaiting a future devoid of suffering (Revelation 21:4).
