How do we know God's righteousness is given to us?

Answered in 1 source

God’s righteousness is imputed to us through faith in Christ, who took our sin upon Himself, as explained in 2 Corinthians 5:21.

The doctrine of imputation teaches that Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, was made sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). This is a profound exchange where Christ took our guilt and punishment upon Himself, and in return, we receive His perfect righteousness. This transaction is permanent and irrevocable, meaning that when God looks at us, He sees Christ's righteousness instead of our sin. Understanding this truth encourages us to live in the assurance of our salvation, knowing that we are accepted before God because of Christ's work.
