How do we know God's sovereignty in the events of Ezra?

Answered in 1 source

God's sovereignty is evident as He uses secular rulers to fulfill His promises to Israel throughout Ezra.

The sovereignty of God is a central theme in the book of Ezra, illustrated vividly through His orchestration of events leading to the rebuilding of the temple. Beginning with God stirring up Cyrus in Ezra 1:1-4, we see that the actions of a foreign king serve to fulfill the divine prophecy regarding Israel's return from exile. Furthermore, God continues to act through subsequent leaders, such as Darius and Artaxerxes, who decree support for the restoration efforts. This pattern illustrates the Reformed understanding that God governs all aspects of history, using even those outside His covenant people to achieve His purposes. In Ezra 6:14-15, the completion of the temple under Darius’s decree is another affirmation of God working through history for His glory and the fulfilment of His promises.
