How do we know God shows mercy?

Answered in 1 source

God shows mercy through His actions and promises, as seen in Scripture throughout both the Old and New Testaments.

The assurance of God's mercy is evident in His character and the numerous promises found in Scripture. He declared in Lamentations 3:22 that His mercies are new every morning, indicative of His faithful care for His people. Moreover, the act of sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the sins of His people exemplifies the depth of God's mercy. When believers acknowledge that Christ's sacrifice was for them, they recognize the personal nature of God's mercy, which pursues them and works in their lives continually to bring salvation and assurance.
