How do we know good works are necessary for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Good works are necessary as evidence of our faith, affirming our calling and election (2 Peter 1:10).

Good works serve as both the fruit of salvation and a necessary evidence of faith. According to 2 Peter 1:10, 'Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble.' The necessity of good works stems from God’s ordination; He has chosen that those who are truly His will exhibit good works in their lives. Thus, while good works do not earn salvation, they confirm the reality of a transformed life and the believer’s genuine relationship with Christ.
