How do we know grace doesn't give us a license to sin?

Answered in 1 source

Grace is not an excuse to sin; instead, it empowers us to live righteously and holds us accountable for our actions.

The misconception that grace allows for unchecked sin is addressed in Romans 6:1-2, where Paul states, 'What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid.' True grace produces a desire for holiness and righteousness, as it is rooted in a transformed heart that seeks to honor Christ. The believer is called to live in light of their new identity in Christ, marked by repentance and the pursuit of holiness. Therefore, while we acknowledge that we are saved by grace through faith, we also recognize that this grace comes with a call to live according to God's commands and to respond to sin within ourselves and the community with seriousness and contrition.
