How do we know grace is essential for peace?

Answered in 2 sources

Grace must precede peace because it is only through God's unmerited favor that we can attain true peace with Him.

The relationship between grace and peace is central to the Gospel. In the sermon, it is emphasized that grace always comes before peace. The Apostle Paul often introduces his letters with the greeting 'Grace and peace from God our Father.' Before experiencing peace, one must first find grace in God's sight, as Gideon did when he received assurance that he would not die because he found grace. This grace is manifest in the atonement of Christ, who satisfied God's justice and made peace for us by His blood (Romans 5:1). Therefore, only through grace can we approach God with confidence and receive His peace.
