How do we know grace is for the guilty?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture clearly teaches that grace is extended to the guilty, as shown in Romans 3:24, where we are justified freely by His grace.

Grace is fundamentally about receiving something we do not deserve. Romans 3:24 states that we are justified freely by His grace, which demonstrates that it is for the guilty who cannot justify themselves. Since every person has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), grace becomes the only means of salvation. It is upon acknowledging our guilt and hopelessness that we can embrace the free gift of salvation through Christ, affirming that grace indeed belongs to the guilty.
