How do we know grace is opposed to works?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture clearly states that grace and works are opposed to one another in the matter of salvation.

Grace and works are fundamentally opposites in the context of salvation. The Scripture affirms this in Romans 11:6, which states, 'And if it is by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.' This illustrates that salvation cannot be a mixture of grace and human effort. To include works in the equation would negate grace and vice versa; they cannot coexist. The struggle to differentiate between grace and works is a fundamental challenge for humanity's understanding, as our natural inclination often seeks to justify ourselves by what we do rather than fully relying on Christ's finished work.
