How do we know grace is truly unearned?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible illustrates that God's gifts, including grace and salvation, are freely given without regard to human achievements.

In Ephesians 2:8-9, the apostle Paul clearly states that by grace we have been saved through faith, not of works, lest anyone should boast. This doctrine is reinforced by David's confrontation with his men in 1 Samuel 30. He emphasizes that their spoils of victory were God's gifts, not products of their labor. Furthermore, throughout the Scriptures, grace is portrayed as unmerited favor from God. This means that even the faintest and weakest among believers share equally in the riches of God's grace. Paul further illustrates this when he mentions that despite our weakness and failures, Christ's strength is perfected in our weakness, underscoring that our successes in faith rely solely on God’s grace.
