How do we know hell is eternal?

Hell is eternal because the same Greek word for everlasting life is used for everlasting punishment.

The concept of eternal damnation is conveyed through the consistency in Scripture regarding the permanence of both heaven and hell. Jesus linked everlasting life with everlasting punishment, using the same terminology to affirm that just as salvation leads to eternal life in His presence, so does rejection of Christ lead to eternal separation and torment. Therefore, rejecting the eternal nature of hell undermines the fundamental promises of eternal life in Christ.
