How do we know humility is true?

Answered in 2 sources

True humility is evidenced by a sincere spirit and an awareness of one's unworthiness, rather than a false or performative humility.

True humility cannot be faked; it arises from a sincere recognition of one's relationship to God and others. In the sermon, it is emphasized that humility is not having a negative view of oneself or boasting about one’s shortcomings, which often reflects self-righteousness rather than true humility. Instead, it is simply not being preoccupied with oneself or one's own ambitions. Those who are truly humbled have an understanding of their worth in Christ, and they do not seek to be recognized or validated by others. Therefore, authentic humility is recognized not only in external behaviors but in an inner attitude and in the acknowledgment of God’s grace in their lives.
