How do we know hypocrisy is true?

Answered in 2 sources

Hypocrisy is evidenced by outward behavior that contradicts inner beliefs, as Jesus illustrated with the Pharisees.

Jesus exposes the hypocrisy of the Pharisees as they outwardly appear righteous while harboring sinful desires within (Luke 20:19-20). Their actions reflect a deliberate pretense meant to deceive others into believing they are devout followers of God. For example, they would mask their true intentions with flattering speech while secretly plotting harm against Jesus. The distinction between their external show and their internal reality reveals the essence of hypocrisy. Jesus' admonition that 'nothing covered shall not be revealed' (Luke 12:2) underscores that true accountability before God will ultimately expose hypocrisy, as what is hidden in darkness will come to light.
