How do we know idolatry is true?

Answered in 1 source

Idolatry is true in the sense that it manifests the human heart's inclination to worship false gods instead of the true God.

Idolatry is evidenced throughout Scripture as a recurring sin among God's people, as depicted in Exodus 32, where the Israelites created a golden calf to worship. This act of rebellion shows their inability to wait on God and their desire for tangible gods they could control. Romans 8:7 explains that the carnal mind is enmity against God, demonstrating our innate resistance to the true God and our propensity to create idols according to our preferences. Therefore, the historical pattern of idolatry reveals the human heart's failure to trust in God's word and his rightful sovereignty.
