How do we know if a church is true according to Scripture?
Answered in 1 source
A church is true if it teaches the doctrines of Christ and practices the ordinances He instituted, such as baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Scripture provides criteria for identifying a true church, which includes adherence to the doctrines of Christ and faithful practice of the ordinances He specified. As stated in Acts 2:42, the early church 'continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.' The pillars of truth consist of proper teaching and practice, such as proper baptism and observance of the Lord's Supper. These ordinances must be conducted according to Christ's instructions, not altered by cultural preferences or human traditions. If a church deviates from these foundational truths, it cannot be considered a true church of Christ, as underscored in 2 John 1:9, which warns against those who do not abide in the doctrine of Christ.
