How do we know if a preacher is of God?

Answered in 2 sources

A true preacher of God will confess Jesus Christ and uphold the gospel of grace, while false preachers distort the truth (1 John 4:2).

To determine if a preacher is genuinely of God, one must evaluate whether they confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh—this is a hallmark of truth. John writes in 1 John 4:2, 'Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.' This confession reflects a biblical understanding of Christ’s nature and work. Additionally, true preachers will present the gospel as wholly of grace, relying on Christ's righteousness rather than human merit. In contrast, false preachers often introduce elements of legalism or conditions that contradict the gospel's message, ultimately leading believers astray. Therefore, evaluating the content of a preacher’s message is crucial to affirming their divine calling.
