How do we know if a teacher is true or false?

Answered in 1 source

A true teacher confesses Jesus Christ has come in the flesh and is tested against Scripture (1 John 4:2).

To discern between true and false teachers, one must evaluate their confession regarding Christ. 1 John 4:2 states that every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh is from God, while those that do not are not of God. Additionally, the church must scrutinize teachings against the doctrines found in the Scriptures. The early church at Ephesus demonstrated this by trying those who claimed to be apostles, ensuring they held to sound doctrine.
