How do we know if our assurance of salvation is genuine?

Answered in 1 source

Genuine assurance of salvation is evident when it is based on faith in Christ rather than on our works or religious practices.

To ascertain the genuineness of one's assurance of salvation, one must reflect on the basis of that confidence. Scripture warns against the carnal presumption displayed by those who may be outwardly religious yet lack a true relationship with Christ. As emphasized in the sermon, the assurance that stems from personal faith, as exemplified by biblical figures like Job and Paul, contrasts sharply with the self-righteous claims of the Pharisees who relied on their own merits. Faith in Christ, expressed through love for others and evidence of a transformative relationship, is the true foundation of assurance. Isaiah 28:15 illustrates the futility of placing trust in religious works without authentic faith, reminding believers that only faith in Christ as the cornerstone provides genuine assurance.
