How do we know if our religion is vain?

Answered in 1 source

Religion is considered vain if it lacks genuine faith and does not result in a transformed heart and life.

Vain religion, as described in James 1:26, is characterized by an outward appearance of piety without the corresponding inward transformation. If a person claims to be religious but does not bridle their tongue and engages in boastful or deceitful speech, they deceive their own heart, indicating their religion is devoid of substance and saving power. This false religiosity is not reflected in loving actions or the embodiment of true faith, rendering it worthless before God.
