How do we know if someone is of God?

Answered in 1 source

We know someone is of God if they hear and accept the truth of God's word.

According to 1 John 4:6, John states, 'We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.' This distinction emphasizes that those who truly know God will resonate with the teachings of the apostles. If a person hears the messages of grace and accepts them, it indicates that they possess the Holy Spirit and have been born of God. Furthermore, true believers exhibit an understanding of their need for salvation and recognize that it can only be granted by the sovereign grace of God, which is foundational to the gospel. In contrast, those who do not accept or understand this message reveal their lack of true knowledge of God.
