How do we know if someone is of God according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that those who are of God confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh and hear God's words.

According to 1 John 4:2, a fundamental test for determining if someone is of God is whether they confess that 'Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.' This confession holds significant theological weight as it encompasses the understanding of Christ's dual nature—truly God and truly man. Additionally, John 8:47 states, 'He that is of God heareth God's words.' This means that a genuine believer will respond not only to the message of Christ's incarnation and work but also to the entirety of God's revelation through Scripture. Those who cannot accept this are indicated to be of the world and lacking the true knowledge of God.
