How do we know if someone is sent from God?

Answered in 1 source

A person sent from God will preach the gospel of God's free grace, not their own ideas.

In the discussion surrounding John the Baptist, we learn that he was a man sent from God whose message pointed directly to Christ and not himself. This is illuminated in 1 Corinthians 1, which teaches that God chooses the weak and despised things to confound the wise, ensuring that no flesh glories in His presence. Messengers of God will consistently proclaim the gospel of grace. If a preacher diverges from this central message, it is a clear indication that they were not sent by God. True ministers of the gospel will always redirect focus to Christ, bearing witness of Him as John did.
