How do we know if someone is truly part of God's people?

Answered in 1 source

A true believer will exhibit faith in Christ, whereas those who leave in unbelief reveal they were never truly part of God's people.

The distinction of a true believer is their ongoing faith in Christ, as opposed to those who depart in unbelief. In Romans 11:20, Paul warns that branches are broken off due to unbelief, showcasing that genuine faith is a gift from God. It’s not merely about outward appearances or moral behavior, but a deep, abiding relationship with Christ that is evidenced by faith and repentance. When someone demonstrates disbelief or turns away from the faith, it is an indicator that they were never genuinely united to Christ. The message is clear: God will keep those He has chosen, and their perseverance in faith is a sign of His grace at work in them.
