How do we know if the Lord has changed our hearts?

Answered in 1 source

We know the Lord has changed our hearts when we look to Christ alone for our righteousness instead of to ourselves.

The evidence of a changed heart is not found in our actions or moral improvements, but in our gaze towards Christ. If we find ourselves looking away from our deeds and instead relying on the person and work of Jesus, it means the Lord has truly transformed us. Paul instructs us to examine where we find our peace—if it is in our works or what we have done, then we are still looking to self. However, if our focus is fixed on Christ and His redemptive power, then we can be assured that our hearts have been changed. According to Romans 8:9, believers are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit if they possess the Spirit of Christ, which affirms the inward change.
