How do we know if we are true disciples?

Answered in 1 source

True disciples continue in Jesus' word and demonstrate love for others (John 8:31, John 13:35).

A true disciple's identity is evidenced by their continuance in the teachings of Christ and their love for one another. John 8:31 states, 'If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples.' This means that genuine disciples actively engage with and live out the Word of God throughout their lives, allowing it to shape their actions and character. Additionally, John 13:35 highlights that love is the defining characteristic of a disciple: 'By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.' A disciple’s life should reflect this love, transcending simple affection to encompass an active pursuit of others' well-being and a commitment to their needs.
