How do we know Jesus Christ is God, and why does it matter?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus Christ is God, which is essential for the perfect execution of our salvation and gives us hope in His promises.

The deity of Christ is crucial for our assurance of salvation; He is both fully God and fully man. In John 1:1, we read, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.' This emphasizes that Jesus, the Word, is God Himself. If Christ were not God, He could not execute the perfect salvation that we need. Only God can redeem humanity effectively, which gives us confidence in His ability to save and bring us to glory. If God has promised salvation, we can rest in the assurance that it is Him who is doing the work in and through us.
