How do we know Jesus' death was for the elect?

Answered in 3 sources

The Scriptures affirm that Jesus laid down His life for those whom the Father gave Him, confirming His death was particular and not universal.

The sacrificial death of Jesus was a deliberate and specific act aimed at redeeming a particular people known as 'the elect.' In John 10:27-29, Christ articulates the relationship between Himself and His sheep, emphasizing that He knows them and they follow Him. Importantly, He states, 'I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.' This assurance underscores that those for whom Jesus died are eternally secure. The character of God's love and the intent behind Christ's sacrifice are central to Reformed theology, which maintains that Christ's atonement is effective for those whom He has chosen.
