How do we know Jesus is a high priest like Melchizedek?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is recognized as a high priest in the order of Melchizedek in Hebrews, fulfilling the priesthood with His sacrifice.

Hebrews 5:5-6 explicitly states that Christ glorified not Himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by God, and is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. This connection serves to highlight Jesus’ unique and eternal priesthood compared to the Levitical priesthood. Like Melchizedek, who had no recorded lineage, Jesus’ priesthood is not based on genealogy but on the eternal plan of God, making Him the perfect mediator who offers the ultimate sacrifice for sin.
