How do we know Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer?

Answered in 14 sources

Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer because He fulfills the qualifications: He is our relative by incarnation, able to pay the price for our sins, and willing to redeem us.

In the story of Ruth, Boaz serves as a type of Christ, our ultimate Kinsman Redeemer. The qualifications Boaz meets—being a relative, being wealthy enough to redeem, and being willing to act—are perfectly fulfilled in Jesus. He became our relative by taking on human flesh (Hebrews 2:14), is able to pay the redemption price through His sacrificial death, and demonstrates His willingness in Romans 5:8, where it says, 'God commended His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' Therefore, just as Ruth sought Boaz out in her need, we are called to seek Christ in faith because He is willing to save those who come to Him.
