How do we know Jesus is the true scapegoat?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus fulfills the role of the scapegoat by bearing our sins and removing them, fulfilling Old Testament types.

Jesus is understood as the ultimate scapegoat in that He bore the sins of humanity, analogous to the goat in Leviticus 16. This type of Christ illustrates how as the high priest Aaron transferred the sins of Israel onto the scapegoat, so too did Jesus take our iniquities upon Himself. In 1 Peter 2:24, it states, 'He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree.' This signifies the reality that Christ's sacrificial death not only pays for sin but also removes them as far as the east is from the west, emphasizing His role as our scapegoat.
