How do we know Jesus is the true sign of salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus affirmed Himself as the ultimate sign of salvation, equating His time in the grave to Jonah's three days in the fish.

In Matthew 12:39-40, Jesus rebukes those seeking signs and states, "There shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the prophet Jonas." This indicates that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament types and shadows. Just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection become the ultimate declaration of God's redemptive work for His elect. His miraculous works bear witness to His divine nature, yet ultimately, it is His atoning sacrifice that establishes Him as the true Savior. Thus, the sign of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection transcends all other signs, presenting a foundation for faith and assurance of salvation.
