How do we know Jesus' priesthood is superior to the Levitical priesthood?

Answered in 3 sources

Jesus' priesthood is superior because He is both the priest and the sacrifice, offering Himself once for all rather than the repeated animal sacrifices of the Levitical priests.

The superiority of Christ’s priesthood to the Levitical system is established in several key differences. While Levitical priests offered the blood of animals, which could not ultimately take away sin (Hebrews 10:4), Jesus, as the sinless Lamb of God, offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice for all time (Hebrews 10:12). Additionally, whereas Levitical priests were mortal and needed to be succeeded upon death, Jesus holds an eternal priesthood, living forever to intercede for us (Hebrews 7:24). This eternal, immutable nature underscores the assurance we have in His mediatory role, giving us confidence to draw near to God (Hebrews 4:16).
