How do we know Jesus' sacrifice was sufficient to save us?

Answered in 1 source

We know Jesus' sacrifice was sufficient because He stated it was finished, confirming all sin was atoned for.

The assurance of Jesus’ sacrifice’s sufficiency is rooted in His own declaration on the cross, 'It is finished' (John 19:30). This one word in the Greek, meaning 'perfect' or 'complete,' assures us that the redemptive work He set out to accomplish was fully realized. Jesus came to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15), and by declaring His work finished, He assures us that all for whom He died have their sins fully atoned for.

Furthermore, the nature of His sacrifice as both God and man provided the perfect means for redemption. As described in Romans 3:25, Christ is the propitiation for our sins, meaning that He absorbed God’s wrath against sin. Believers can trust in the adequacy of this sacrifice, knowing that it was ordained by God for the salvation of His people. The historical resurrection of Christ further confirms the sufficiency of His atonement, highlighting that death could not hold Him, which is the ultimate validation of His successful mission to redeem us.
