How do we know judgment in the church is appropriate?

Answered in 1 source

Judgment within the church is necessary for maintaining sound doctrine and correcting sin, as indicated in Scripture.

Judgment is a vital aspect of church life, according to 1 Corinthians 5:12 which states, 'For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?' This indicates that while we are to avoid a critical spirit, there's a rightful place for judgment in matters of doctrine and sin. We are called to examine ourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5) and to discern the spirits (1 John 4:1). Healthy judgment must stem from love and concern for one another, and it should always be aimed at restoration rather than condemnation.
