How do we know Lot was a righteous man?

Answered in 6 sources

Lot is considered righteous because God Himself described him as just, and he was vexed by the wickedness around him.

According to 2 Peter 2:7-8, Lot is referred to as a 'just man' who was greatly troubled by the sinful behavior of the Sodomites surrounding him. His vexation with the unrighteousness around him is a characteristic of the true believer who is sensitive to sin. Furthermore, God's declaration of Lot's righteousness underscores the Reformed understanding of imputed righteousness, where one is deemed righteous not because of personal merit, but because God declares it. This is reflective of the larger biblical truth that justification comes through faith as God works in the lives of His people, exemplified by His mercy in delivering Lot from judgment.
