How do we know love is the greatest Christian virtue?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible states that love is greater than all spiritual gifts and will never fail.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, Paul writes, 'And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love).' This statement reflects that while faith and hope are vital, love is eternal and remains paramount. Love is not transient like spiritual gifts or knowledge, which are limited and will fade away. It is the one Christian virtue that embodies Christ's command to love one another, revealing one's true discipleship. Therefore, love serves as the foundation and ultimate goal of the Christian life.
