How do we know love is true?

Answered in 3 sources

True love is known through our actions and is evidenced by our willingness to sacrifice for others, as shown in 1 John 3:16.

We know love is true through the ultimate demonstration of love in Christ's sacrifice. In 1 John 3:16, we learn that 'By this we know love, that He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.' This sacrificial love upholds the Christian standard of love as something that requires action, not just words. Therefore, true love manifests itself in selflessness and a commitment to the well-being of others, modeling Christ's love for us as the ultimate example.
