How do we know our conscience is reliable?

Answered in 1 source

Our conscience is reliable to the extent that it aligns with the truths of Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit in us.

The reliability of our conscience is contingent upon its alignment with the Word of God and the influence of the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 9:14 teaches that the blood of Christ purges our conscience from dead works, indicating that the cleansing of the conscience is vital for it to function properly. When our conscience is informed by Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit, it reflects God's moral standards accurately. Conversely, a seared or evil conscience can lead to misinterpretation of good and evil. Therefore, a good conscience arises from faith in Christ, which enables a believer to discern truth accurately and reject self-deception.
