How do we know our heart is corrupt?

Answered in 1 source

Our hearts are corrupt by nature, producing evil thoughts and actions (Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:18-19).

Scripture teaches that the heart is inherently corrupt, as noted in Jeremiah 17:9, which states that the heart is deceitful above all things. This intrinsic corruption affects a man's nature from conception, implying that all humans are born with a sinful heart. In Matthew 15:18-19, Jesus further clarifies that the evils of the heart—such as murders, adulteries, and false witness—defile a person. Therefore, the evidence of a corrupt heart is visible in the actions that stem from it, confirming that apart from divine intervention, the heart is incapable of genuine goodness.
