How do we know our hearts are corrupt?

Jeremiah 17:9 declares, 'The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?' This reflects the biblical teaching of total depravity, showing that apart from God's grace, our hearts are inherently sinful and self-deceiving. Jesus reinforces this in Matthew 15:19, indicating that the sinful actions, such as evil thoughts and adulteries, emerge from our depraved hearts.
