How do we know our own sinful nature?

Answered in 1 source

We can only know our sinful nature as God reveals it to us through His Word and dealings in our lives.

Our understanding of our sinful nature is intricately linked to our knowledge of God. In 1 Kings 8:38, Solomon expresses that every man will know the plague of his own heart, indicating that self-awareness comes from a divine revelation. God's Word serves as a mirror, reflecting the true condition of our hearts. As we engage with Scripture, particularly passages that speak to our fallen nature, we come to recognize the depth of our sinfulness. Moreover, God's providential dealings in our lives often bring external circumstances that lead to self-reflection, allowing us to feel the gravity of our sin and need for repentance. Ultimately, it is through the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit that we gain a deeper awareness of our sinful nature and our great need for Christ.
