How do we know our righteousness is not enough?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture teaches that no one can be justified by their own works; they must rely on Christ's righteousness.

The Apostle Paul argues in Romans 9:16 that salvation is 'not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.' This underscores the futility of relying on human actions or decisions for salvation. In Philippians 3, Paul vividly illustrates that even his impeccable background as a Pharisee counted for nothing without faith in Christ. Therefore, we can be assured that our righteousness is inherently flawed and insufficient; only the perfect righteousness of Christ can secure our salvation and acceptance before God.
