How do we know our spiritual understanding is limited?

Answered in 1 source

Our understanding is limited; without the Gospel, the spirit of man cannot fully perceive God's truths.

The spirit of man, although capable of recognizing moral duties and the existence of God, lacks the ability to fully understand divine truths and the means of salvation. Scripture points out that while man’s spirit might reveal certain moral insights, it fails to grasp the necessity of Christ's death and resurrection (Romans 1:20). The natural conscience can alert a person to sin, but only the Gospel can convict one of sin in relation to faith in Jesus Christ. This limitation shows the necessity of God's revelation through Scripture to lead us to a true understanding of salvation.
